Candle Care 101

Candle Care 101

You’ve just received your meltee candle and you’re wondering how to get the most out of it… we’re here to help.

Read our top tips on how to care for your candle so you can enjoy the fragrance for the longest time whilst being safe.

First off, let’s be safe!

Remove the packaging and place on a heat-resistant surface. To prevent fire and serious injury always burn candles within sight. Never leave a burning candle unattended or move when lit. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Keep away from draughts and vibrations. Never place a candle near anything that may catch fire.

Burning instructions to get the most out of your candle:

  1. Trim your wick!

Before lighting your candle, trim the wick to 5mm. We use cotton wicks which are easily trimmable with a wick trimmer, scissors, or nail clippers.

Trimming your wick is essential to ensuring you get the most out of your candle, and ensures safe burning.

If the wick is too long, this will generate too much heat from the candle flame and the candle wax will melt faster.

Too tall a flame will also burn your candle improperly. Too much heat will be generated from the candle flame, and the candle wax will melt faster.

  1. Find the best spot!

Finding the right location to burn your candle is also important to get the most out of your candle. We recommend keeping your candle away from moving air such as an open window, air conditioning, heaters, etc. as this can disturb the smell.

Make sure to burn your candle on level surfaces.

Make sure to keep your candles away from foreign objects including matches, wick trimmings, and anything highly flammable. Keep burning candles at least 10cm apart.

  1. Time to light!

To avoid tunneling and wasting any wax, the first time you burn your candle, you should set aside enough time to let the candle burn to the edge and melt all the way across.

If you don’t leave enough time, it can cause that annoying circle layer of wax around the edge.

Do not burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time. Don’t leave your candle unattended or in sight of pets or children.

Once you’re finished burning your candle, avoid blowing it out and use a snuffer or candle lid instead.

And that’s it! We hope you enjoy burning your candle as much as we did creating it.
